The easily followed trail runs along the fell range between the centres of Pyhä and Luosto, over terrain shaped during the Ice Age and through old-growth forests. Spectacular fell scenery reveals itself when you emerge from the forested sections. There are numerous rest stops along the way. This allows you to bike the trail in shorter sections, take your time and savour your breaks. At Lampivaara, you can stop for a coffee and pastry or visit a real amethyst mine. You'll find other charming rest stops at Pyhälampi, Kapusta and Kiimaselkä day trip huts the Porontahtoma lean-to. You can also stay overnight while on the trail at the Kuukkeli or Huttujärvi rental hut as well as Huttuloma open wilderness hut. The trail is suitable for visitors in good physical condition as well as beginner mountain bikers. A majority of the trail is easy to ride, but the section between Porontahtoma and Huttujärvi in particular is more challenging. The geological features of the area, sharp quartz stones, are exposed, so remember to bring along a tire repair kit.

Safety information

Reserve an ample amount of time. There are rocky sections along the trail: slow down and walk your bike, if necessary. In the Pyhä-Luosto National Park, a large percentage of the rock fields contain extremely sharp quartzite, which easily puncture tires. Make sure you have a charged mobile phone with you. Gravel-covered sections of the trail can be fast

and surprisingly slippery, so ride with care. In rainy weather, sections of the trail that are rocky and crisscrossed with tree roots are extremely slippery. The trail is also used by visitors on foot, so all bikers are required to slow down whenever encountering other trail users.
