This 7-8 hour tour, including preparation and transfers, is a guided whitewater packrafting trip designed for both beginners and seasoned rafters, ensuring a fun and safe journey for everyone.
Starting with a morning meet-up at the Xwander Nordic office in Ivalo, we'll prepare our rafting gear before a 40-minute drive to Inari. Upon arrival, we'll cover the basics of packrafting before setting off on our approximately 8-kilometer paddling adventure through varying sceneries.
The Juutua River was an important waterway and fishing river for their for the Inari Sámi people. As you navigate the river, you'll pass through areas known for their natural beauty, including views of Otsamo Fell. The river flows through wild forested areas, with stretches of serene water interspersed with rapids.
The Juutua River offers Class I and II rapids, with the picturesque Jäniskoski rapid reaching Class III. Notable rapids along route inclued Jurmukoski, Ritakoski, Haapakoski, and Jäniskoski. Beginners will stick to Class I rapids. depending on conditions, while more experienced rafters can opt to tackle the more challenging sections, which will be evaluated on the day.
Packrafting is accessible and safe, even for those new to the sport, with a moderate fitness level required. The lightweight rafts allow easy portage around any challenging sections, ensuring a flexible and enjoyable adventure for all skill levels.
