Sámi culture: Past and present in Utsjoki village

Utsjoki in Northernmost Finnish Lapland, or better to call the village it with its original name Ohcejohka in Sápmi (Sámi Homelands), is indigenous Sàmi region, with the Sámi people  inhabiting the lands before any kingdoms and nations existed. It is  a destination with eight yearly seasons, which has resulted in a  culture with creative ways of living and surviving. Getting deeper into this Northern culture would take several years to explain, but we try our best to give some insight about the region, history and culture on this 2-hour sightseeing tour. 

On our sightseeing tour in Utsjoki village, we visit the Utsjoki Church and church huts by Mantojärvi Lake, Onnelantörmä by River Teno, Sámi Bridge, Village House Giisá and Áiligas fell (if the road up to the fell is in good condition). Your local guide will explain past and present environmental, social and cultural events and circumstances that have shaped the life of the village today. We stop at a cafeteria and local handicraft shop, where you can purchase handicrafts, hot drinks and pancakes or cinnamon buns. We walk short distances at sites, but the tour can also be modified to suit guests with physical mobility restrictions.
