Ume Sámi singer-songwriter Katarina Barruk is one of the most exciting contemporary artists in modern Sámi music. Her clear voice, powerful joik, and evocative improvisation merge with modern pop-rock in an intense performance.

Barruk is the world’s only artist who performs and records in Ume Sámi. Ume Sámi is a Sámi language classified by UNESCO as critically endangered, with only a few dozen speakers remaining. By making music in Ume Sámi, she invites the audience into her world and creates space to breathe and pause at the intersection of nature and music.

Katarina Barruk’s second solo album Ruhttuo was released in October 2022. On stage, she is joined by a band of Norwegian musicians. She has performed активно on festival stages across Sweden and Norway since 2015, when her debut album Báruos was released.
