Ilonka’s Kota Café – slow down and you’ve arrived
Ilonka’s Kota Café is a relaxed and welcoming stop along the E75 road, between Ivalo and Saariselkä. It’s an easy place to pull over and pause — not because you have to, but because it feels right. There’s no rush and no expectations. You’re invited to slow down, sit for a while, and enjoy the moment.
In winter, the heart of the café is the living fire inside the traditional Lappish kota, offering warmth and a quiet sense of comfort during the colder months. In summer, much of the experience moves outdoors. The cozy courtyard is beside a small pond, creating a peaceful setting where guests can enjoy a cup of coffee, watch the water ripple, and listen to the sounds of nature.
The atmospheric kota is open during the summer and winter seasons according to announced opening hours. In addition, the kota is open year‑round by reservation. The main kota accommodates approximately 30 guests, and next to it is a smaller kammi, suitable for around 10 people.
When the café is open, you can also book a self‑guided farm visit. During your farm visit you get to meet friendly animals, do some little tasks and activities, and walk a short nature trail with signs to help you learn about Finnish folklore and the connection with nature. The farm visit is a calm and grounding experience for both children and adults.
At Ilonka’s café, we serve treats from nature and our home bakery. The selection includes both savory and sweet baked goods, as well as herbal teas and drinks made from wild ingredients picked locally from the surrounding landscape. Flavors are simple, comforting, and honest.
In the courtyard, you’ll also find Lilli’s Boutique, a small and personal shop offering handicrafts and ecological products. It’s a lovely place to browse and perhaps take home something local, sustainable, and thoughtfully made — a small reminder of a slower moment along the way.
Ilonka Farm & Café isn’t about doing more. It’s about giving yourself permission to stop, and simply be.
