Step into a truly unique Northern Lights adventure that combines the charm of a budget-friendly experience with the expertise of a local guide. Join Sami Kauppinen, a third-generation Ivalo local, for an unforgettable night chasing the auroras in the pristine wilderness of Northern Lapland.

Your journey begins when Sami picks you up in his classic, small but cheerful Ford Escort from the 90s—a fun addition to this authentic experience. Designed for groups of up to 3 people (or even 4 if you're comfortable in a cozy car), this private tour is all about personalization, adventure, and the magic of Lapland’s night sky.

We’ll drive as far as needed to escape light pollution and find the best possible spots for viewing the auroras based on real-time conditions. While Sami keeps an eye on aurora forecasts, he relies most on his own experience, sharp eyes, and gut feeling to maximize your chances of seeing the lights.

The tour starts between 8 to 10 PM (depending on the weather and your plans) and lasts until 2 AM, or until the auroras fade. Along the way, enjoy hot drinks and snacks to keep you warm and energized as you marvel at the Arctic night sky. Sami's expert local knowledge and warm storytelling will make this an extraordinary and intimate experience.

If the forecast suggests poor aurora activity or poor weather on the day of your tour, don’t worry — Sami will make the call and cancel the trip, ensuring you don’t waste time chasing what isn’t there. In that case, you’ll receive a full refund.

Know before you go

  • Physical Requirements: The tour involves getting in and out of a small, low-clearance car, and standing outside in potentially freezing temperatures. Basic mobility and physical endurance to handle cold conditions are required.
  • Clothing: Dress warmly in layered winter clothing, including hats, gloves, scarves, and insulated footwear, as the temperatures can drop significantly during the night.
  • Accessibility: Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible due to the nature of the car and terrain.
  • Weather Conditions: While every effort will be made to find the Northern Lights, sightings cannot be guaranteed as they depend on natural conditions.
  • Car Size: The car accommodates 2–3 people comfortably. A fourth person can join, but please note that the space will be tight.
  • Children: The experience is suitable for older children. A child seat is available upon request for an additional fee. Please inform us in advance if you require one.

If you have any special needs, requests, or concerns, please contact me before booking, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.
